Want to break gender stereotypes? Try this app

In a positive step towards breaking the gender stereotypes, a new game ‘Girl Rising’ has been launched to acknowledge the struggles of women in our society.

Mumbai: A new gaming app by the nameGirl Rising’ that holds the potential of bridging the gender inequality gap has been introduced. The app will make every citizen aware about the daily struggles of the women in our society.

Millions of girls in India and across the world are fighting to break the gender-based barriers for accessing education and livelihood opportunities. Recognizing the urgent need to address the behaviors and the mindsets that lead to perpetuation of gender-discriminatory practices Girl Rising Game’ is introduced as a weapon to change the mindsets of the gender bias society

The app is being launched by a global campaign ‘Girl Rising’ in association with telecom firm, Vodafone.

This gaming app is introduced to create awareness about the need of acquiring gender equality practices and empowering the users to bring the change. The game has adapted and developed on four real based stories from ‘Girl Rising’s flagship film ‘Woh Padhegi, Woh Udegi’ to inculcate a better understanding of the barriers to education and opportunities faced by the girls. In its initial phase, the Girl Rising Game has released with 4 playable real stories, and is available to download on Vodafone Game store, Social App Hubs and Google Play Store.

Launching the campaign, Arjun Kapoor, said, “It is unfortunate that so many girls and women in our country still have to fight in order to compete with their male counterparts. It is important that every individual contributes towards eradicating gender discrimination. Ending gender-based discrimination is something that I firmly believe in, the next time you or anyone else spots a form of gender-based discrimination, try to stop it. Achieving gender equality is not the responsibility of women alone; men must play their part too”.

In order to create equal opportunities for girls and boys, a change in mindset and behavior is required through the powerful storytelling tools, such as films, videos, and interactive platforms as they easily strike an emotional chord, and stir effective solutions. The ascending smartphone usage in India has the ability to reach out the masses and influence their behavior. Therefore, Girl Rising game will give an opportunity to the users to not only witness the remarkable stories, but also to learn that breaking stereotypes is necessary and possible.
