Youth initiative celebrates the message of Special Olympics

The initiative lays focus on the message of Special Olympics beyond boundaries and promotion of inclusiveness in sports.

New Delhi: The second edition of Pratishtha, an initiative of Youth leaders for reaching out to the community through the Special Olympics' principles, was held on 1st July 2018 at Smriti Van situated in Mayur Vihar. The initiative saw a total of 20 Special Olympics Youth leaders with and without Intellectual Disabilities brought on board 80 volunteers to conduct the special initiative.

The event featured various sports activities such as bocce, cricket, power lifting and relay race along with Tug of War. The event witnessed 60 Athletes playing the sports while encouraging the evening walkers to play with them along with volunteers.

Pratishtha is an initiative of youth leaders which was first conducted in July 2017. The initiative was a brainchild of Tanmay Agarwal who is an alumni of the Apeejay School, Pitampura. It is a step towards reaching out to the Community with the Special Olympics message of inclusion through sports.

The planning was completely carried out by a team of youth leaders from delegating tasks such as making creative designs, carried out marketing through brochures and Nukkad Nataks in the neighbouring areas. The street play was scripted by the SO Youth Club of Tagore International School, New Delhi.

The event this year celebrated the 50th year of the Special Olympics movement world over.
