Crosscutting Agra Project (CAP) to help urban poor

Apr 16, 2013

This initiative is a joint collaborative effort of Agra Nagar Nigam and NGO CURE that focuses on slum development, sanitation, and service provision to urban poor.

The project's objective is to mobilize low-income communities, in particular women and children to participate in implementation of sanitation services, solid waste management, local economic development and upgrading slum areas in general. It has improved the living standard of slum dwellers by promoting opportunities related to the tourism industry with the help of the Archaeological Survey of India and USAID. It has also improved and renovated monuments and has set up a Heritage Cell office for information for tourists.

Other activities include creation of organic waste water drainage system and toilets, thereby, improving the environmental conditions of slum communities. CAP has also trained young boys in guiding tourists and getting them acquainted with monuments, which comes under the Mughal Heritage Walk.
