Faith unites people against poverty
Praying for a better world, hundreds of people from different faiths came together yesterday at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Indian capital to pledge against poverty. Supporting the Stand Up Take Action Campaign, they demanded transparency and accountability in governance.
New Delhi: It was a holy congregation to pledge themselves in fight against poverty. People from all faiths gathered in the Indian capital yesterday for the Sunday Mass at the Scared Heart Cathedral and vowed to be an instrument of peace and justice.

Coming together as part of the Stand Up Take Action Campaign, men, women and children pronounced in unison with the parish priest, their support for development of the poorest and the marginalised.
The volunteers on behalf of the Stand up the Campaign distributed pamphlets and posters among the public to spread awareness on the MDGs.

Speaking on the occasion Sister Mariola B.S, National Coordinator Right to food Campaign, National Commission for Justice, Peace and Development said, “It is time for all of us to unite at different levels to eradicate hunger and poverty. We must wholeheartedly work to ensure that everyone in the country has enough to eat and that there are more schemes to ameliorate the conditions of those living in the slums.”
After the conclusion of the prayers, people stood up to urge the government to work for provision of health, education and other basic services. They demanded accountability and transparency in the public schemes and pledged themselves to fight corruption.
