Hunger Free Bihar Campaign along with partners will hold a People's Summit to mark this year's Stand Up Take Action, an annual global anti-poverty event organised by the Millennium Campaign. It will provide a space to discuss issues like food insecurity, child labour, NREGA, health and elementary education status in Bihar.

Hunger Free Bihar Campaign and partners will organize a People’s Summit For Hunger Free Bihar 2009 on the October 16 in Patna. More than 10,000 participants including NREGA job card holders, farmers, labourer, and social activists from all over the state are expected to take part in the event.

The Campaign feels that institutions of local self-governance have a critical role to play in preempting situations of hunger and starvation by ensuring effective implementation of food security schemes, employment guarantee arrangements and social security programmes. The need of the hour is to enable elected PRI representatives to acquire greater control over local development processes and to vest them with greater authorities and control over resources.

The Campaign is establishing a larger pressure group for effective implementation of Govt schemes /commitments and formulating hunger free Bihar policy and to create more livelihood alternatives for BPL, marginalized groups, small and marginal farmers for making Hunger Free Bihar.

Agriculture Minister Renu kumari kuswaha, Principal Accountant General of Bihar and Jharkhand, Government of India Arun Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Food and Consumer Protection, Government of Bihar Tripurari Sharan and some national level experts have given their consent to participate in this summit.
